This federal election, Australians have a powerful voice. You can demand real action on climate change and ocean protection for the future of our reefs, marine life, and coastal communities.
Right now, our world-famous marine environments are in crisis. A climate-fuelled marine heatwave is bleaching coral across both Ningaloo Reef and the Great Barrier Reef, an unprecedented and deeply concerning event.¹ These vibrant ecosystems are vital to our national identity, culture, and economy.
At the same time, industrial threats are escalating at Exmouth Gulf, Ningaloo and elsewhere along our incredible coast. Fragile marine habitats face new offshore gas developments, from WA’s Scott Reef to the Victorian surf coast, putting endangered species and fragile ecosystems under even greater pressure.
Yet political leaders continue to back fossil fuel expansion and delay reforms to nature laws, risking the health of our oceans and the communities that depend on them.
This election, we can turn the tide.
From Ningaloo and the Great Barrier Reef to Scott Reef, the Southern Ocean and beyond, Australia is home to some of Earth’s most extraordinary marine environments. They sustain jobs, culture, and a way of life that depends on thriving oceans.
Tell your local candidates: it’s time to protect marine life, end reckless industrial threats, and take strong, science-backed climate action:
- Stronger nature laws to stop extinctions and restore marine habitats.
- Safeguard unique ocean ecosystems.
- Urgent climate action to end offshore oil and gas expansion and transition to renewable energy that protects nature.
- Greater investment in protecting and restoring marine environments.
- Global leadership to protect international waters and stop plastic pollution.
Whether you’re a fisher, a diver, or someone who simply enjoys our stunning 33,000kms of coasts, this election is your moment to speak up for oceans².
Sign our letter: Let your candidates know you’re voting for climate and nature, for your favourite coastal places, and a thriving future.
