Qld Acts On Emissions
Queensland has legislated to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 2035.
In April, the Queensland government set strong targets: 75% cut to greenhouse gas emissions and 80% renewable energy target by 2035. This places Queensland at the forefront of climate action, transitioning from a high per capita emitter to a global leader in pollution reduction.
In more good news the Queensland opposition, Liberal National Party, has supported legislating the emissions reduction target too. Unfortunately, they did not support legislating renewable energy targets. With a state election in October, it is critical that there is also bipartisan support for this target, which is key to achieving emissions reductions in QLD.
It’s time for the Australian government to significantly raise its emissions reduction target.
To protect the Great Barrier Reef and honour UNESCO commitments, a minimum 90% emissions reduction target by 2035 is essential to limit global warming to 1.5°C.
Climate change is the gravest threat to our oceans, bringing more frequent and more intense marine heatwaves.

Urgent action is imperative in this decade to safeguard the future of the Great Barrier Reef.
