Stop PEP11.

This proposed new oil and gas project is “pending” a decision – we must urge the Albanese Government to stick to its word, and reject the shocking industrialisation of our stunning oceans.

The PEP11 licence, if renewed, would allow drilling for gas within 5.5km of the NSW shoreline, all the way from Manly, through the Central Coast to Newcastle, threatening migration routes of humpback whales.

On April 23, 2024 Minister Madeleine King, who is usually responsible for deciding which offshore gas projects are approved, recused herself from the PEP11 decision-making process.
This political hot potato now sits with the Minister for Industry and Science, the Hon Ed Husic.
Minister Husic has the power to listen to the science and reject PEP11.

The science is clear: our government must urgently introduce climate policies that rapidly cut emissions and limit global warming to 1.5°C – a critical threshold.

Rejecting any further fossil fuel projects, like PEP11, is fundamental to slowing global warming, and preserving our way of life.

Right now, we have the opportunity to hold the government to its promise of rejecting PEP11.
